Freebies in hotel rooms

Posted on December 31, 2014 at 9:06 am

It was always a perk of going away and stopping in a hotel to see what complimentary items the hotel provided, however more and more hotels are now cutting costs and in an attempt to save money are not providing any complimentary items such as shampoo, conditioner, hand soap and sewing kits.

This is quite frustrating when you’re going away and have limited packing room as it’s not easy to take all your bathroom products with you without the risk of them leaking in your case.

Although many of the budget hotels across the board are removing all complimentary products from their hotels some places are actually using the freebies as a selling point for staying in more luxurious accommodation. More expensive rooms will often include a range of freebies from an up market brand such as Malton Brown or The Sanctuary. As well as the general bathroom products they will often provide slippers, shower caps and nail sets, these things take the stress out of packing and also make a nice memento to take away from your stay. These items cost the hotel very little and from a business point of view make a lot of sense, after all everyone loves a freebie!

Finding the best hotel deals

Posted on December 1, 2014 at 1:19 pm

With so many hotel comparison websites it can be hard to know where to go for the best deals on hotel rooms.

The main issue is that the comparison websites only review and offer a certain selection of hotels that usually pay the website to feature their hotels, therefore you don’t get a fair comparison across the board.

My advice would be to find a hotel that you like first of all and once you have checked the reviews and are happy that you’d like to stay there do a search for the hotel on Google and see which companies offer a price for the room you’d like. Search a few websites and once you find the best deal call the hotel directly and say that you are interested in booking the room and have found it online for x amount and you were wondering if they could do anything to offer you a better price for booking directly.

Often hotels have quite a large margin on their rooms that they can reduce to get business directly so it’s always worth asking as even if they cannot beat the price you may be able to get them to throw in some extras like a bottle of wine in the room or a discount on dinner, either way if you don’t ask you won’t get!

Ngorongoro Crater

Posted on October 31, 2014 at 11:20 am

The Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania is actually a UNESCO World Heritage Site! These types of sites are deemed to be of physical significance (or special cultural significance) by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.
There are just 981 World Heritage Sites across the world (there are 28 in the UK alone) and this is one that you can visit where you’ll also get the opportunity to see a large collection of animal species including the “Big five” with a large population of Lions.
This is the largest unbroken, un-flooded volcanic caldera in the world. It was formed over three million years ago when a giant volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself. It is about 19kms wide and about six-hundred meters deep with a total area of 260 square kilometres which now acts as a natural enclosure for wildlife. It has been labelled as a conservation area, which protects numerous animal species.

Northern France – easy access

Posted on October 29, 2014 at 11:19 am

From the UK, Northern France is an easy trip either over or under the channel. Costs can vary, but you can get it very cheaply!
Northern France is a perfect location for those who have an interest in history and the world wars. With locations to visit such as Dunkerque, Cassel, St-Omer, La Coupole and Montreuil-sur-Mer you will be able to experience locations loaded with charm and interest. You’ll also be able to visit several war memorials and war museums which are scattered around the area – definitely worth a visit. For a location which in itself is rather interesting, we suggest to take a trip to Le Mont Saint Michel which is medieval town in Normandy. It welcomes over three million people every year and the ancient Burgher’s Guardroom is now welcomes through tourists and pilgrims who visit this town throughout the year as it is now the Tourist office.

Natural landscapes to visit in China

Posted on September 29, 2014 at 11:19 am

There are several amazing spots across China to visit but we suggest you make time to visit a few of the natural landscapes especially the heavenly lakes.
Tianchi Lake/Heaven Lake is a crater lake on the border between China and North Korea. It is located between Ryanggang Province, North Korea and Jilin Province. (North-eastern China) The lake is in a caldera atop the volcanic Baekdu Mountain which is part of the Baekdudaegan mountain range and the Changbai mountain range.
Sayram Lake (the last tear drop of Atlantic Ocean) Location: Sayram Lake is located between the Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture and the Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang.  The lake is a beautiful natural water resource and is circled by green grasslands. Nestled in the mountains, it’s tucked away and misty occasionally.
Qinghai Lake Lake is located about 100 kilometres west of the provincial capital of Xining at 3,205m above sea level in a depression of the Tibet-Qinghai Plateau in the traditional Tibetan province of Amdo, the best time is to visit between May and August.
