What to do if you have a problem with your hotel room

Posted on July 31, 2015 at 10:58 am

There is nothing worse than getting in to your hotel room to find that all is not what it should be. Common problems with hotel rooms include cleanliness, electrical items not working and issues with the bathroom.

If you do discover a problem you should first call down to reception and ask for the problem to be rectified or for you to be moved to another room. If this doesn’t seem to get you anywhere you could ask to speak to a manager. Tell them that you have tried to sort the issue out with reception but to no avail so therefore have had to escalate the problem.

If you are still not happy with the outcome you could write a letter of complaint when you get home or if it is a chain hotel, contact the head office.

Most hotels are keen to rectify problems quickly as they often get a lot of business through word f mouth and therefore want you to have a positive experience.

Day trips to Barmouth

Posted on June 29, 2015 at 7:36 pm

Barmouth is located on the west coast of Wales and has been a popular destination for holiday makers for many years. Living in Shropshire, it is only just over an hour and a half drive away so is the perfect location for a day trip to the beach.

Barmouth is ideally suited to families as there is plenty to do to keep young ones entertained. The beaches are golden sands with sand dunes rising up along the edge. During the peak season you can expect to find donkey rides, trampolines and bouncy castles all on the beach along with a wide range of cafés, ice cream parlours and even a fun fair.

There are some great little eateries in Barmouth, but these do get pretty full so it is advised to book in advance if you want to guarantee a table. If you enjoy a spot of crab fishing, then by yourself a set from one of the local gift shops and head down to the pier to set up.

Holiday plans disrupted? Who can help?

Posted on May 31, 2015 at 1:43 pm

There are many things that can go wrong during the period of booking a holiday and going away and it can be hard to know where to turn if you have a problem but the citizen’s advice bureau, a government led initiative, have come up with a help sheet online that can help with almost any holiday related problem.

They offer free impartial advice for how to complain about a holiday company or holiday club, they also give advice on what you should do if the holiday company you have booked through go bust and you lose your holiday booking (and money) as a result.

Health advice is also offered with an easy guide of what to do in case of an emergency along with advice on how to cancel your holiday or make necessary changes to your holiday at the least cost to you.

It’s a very useful site that is definitely worth checking out before you go abroad.

Braving the great outdoors

Posted on April 29, 2015 at 8:38 pm

When I was young we spent many holidays in a tent on often quite a basic camp site or once or quite just in a field. This may sound to some a nightmare, but for me, those times are some of my fondest childhood memories. All too often you hear people say that they will not stay in a tent or even a caravan as they like their luxuries that only a hotel or B and B can offer. But if you are with friends or family and are able to be get back to basics a little, camping holidays can be great fun.

Firstly they are often considerably cheaper than hotels and some sites are well equipped for families with children with swimming pools, play parks and club houses on site.

Building camp fires on the beach and waking up to the sound of the sea are just some of the great memories I have from our camping trips and with six of us, there was never a dull moment.

If you have never tried camping before then why not give it a go, you may be surprised to find how enjoyable it is and often it is the best way to bring people close together as you learn to live without the luxuries of everyday life we often take for granted.

Going on holiday during a sporting event

Posted on March 29, 2015 at 2:14 pm

A holiday, for most of us, is something you can really look forward to. A time when you can relax, unwind and forget about the stresses of everyday life for a while. To try and ensure you get this you need to do your research on not only the accommodation and surrounding area, but also to see if there any events on during the time you plan to go.

I recently booked a holiday not realising that it actually coincided with a rather big football game. I don’t mind watching a bit of football on the TV, but I was not prepared for what I faced during my stay away. There were crowds of football fans everywhere, some of which were rather rowdy. I had my young children with me at the time and I felt very a little concerned to venture outside our hotel grounds in the early evening.

I’m not saying that a holiday that takes place during such event is always going to be awful, some people quite like the buzz of people around, but make sure you are aware before you book.
